In the winter, I worked with a skid horse hauling logs out to an area where they were then put on a skid to take out of the woods. That 5/8th of a mile over the water was treacherous a few times when the wind was going one way with the tide going in the opposite direction.
Most of my directions came from Mrs. "Peggy" Rockefeller. A friend of mind, Bob Falk and Mr. Rockefeller worked one day picking up rocks for about two hours. The Rockefeller's were very nice in all ways. A great experience. For me, the extra complexity required to keep the wheels tracking well isn't worth it. But I just do day trips with lightly loaded boats. I can see where a camper would find it attractive. One of the design challenges that I ran into was how to get the wheels closer to,the center of the kayak so that I could balance the weight of a fully loaded kayak on the wheels, which made the kayak much easier to move. My solution was to turn the kayak up on its side and then set it onto the wheels. That way I can position the wheels at any point along the length of the kayak. Your design looks like it might work in the same way. Have you even tried loading your kayak onto the cart with the kayak laying on its side? Even an empty kayak moves around so much easier when you,get the wheels near the balance point of the kayak.
https://newglorydays.wordpress.com/2018/09/15/back-to-the-drawing-board/

Dan Fausthttps://www.newglorydays.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6666730569460347191.post-45155309441360136842018-08-30T12:57:44.111-07:002018-08-30T12:57:44.111-07:00Generally crossing from the Verona Island launch t...Generally crossing from the Verona Island launch to cruising the Bucksport waterfront is possible and mostly protected. Crossing by the Penobscot Narrows is possible, but you’d want to be careful with a south wind and ebbing tide. The upstream section does have some tricky chop and eddies, so that would be trickier. I have been thinking about buying it for a while, I didn’t feel like just ordering it from the internet, because kayaks... well you want to try before buy right?
